Lake Arenal Costa Rica Tico Restaurants have some of the best food I have ever
tasted. The food is rich is natural minerals,
not like typical US food that has been processed and made with vitamin &
mineral deficient vegetables. I absolutely love the local
vegetarian dishes. These vegetables have not been exposed to
chemical fertilizers. The local
vegetables have a sweetness I've never tasted before. The local area
is rich in exotic vegetables, fruits and nuts. Seafood such as
local fish, shrimp, lobster never tasted so good. All the beef
is natural range feed beef and very inexpensive when compared to
US beef.

1). Lava Rock Restaurant In La Fortuna
The food at Lava Rocks in La Fortuna is awesome and very inexpensive. We
had the typical vegetarian dish with rice, beans, salad, plantains,
white cheese, vegetables and mashed potatoes for about 3,500 local
dollars or $7.00 American Dollars. Best meal we had in Costa Rica this
month! By far the cheapest. All the other dishes looked wonderful
also.

Rica White Cheese is one of our favorites

salads and homemade soups. They also have several
fish entrees that we're sure you'll love. The atmosphere
is very peaceful and the surroundings are beautiful.
They specialize in local Tico cuisine with farm grown
tilapia fish.

Lake Arenal Restaurants
Lake Arenal Restaurants vary from cheap, delicious local Tico
establishments to expensive Gringo restaurants that charge $15
for a Caesar salad. It all depends on your taste and wallet. I
prefer to dine at the local Tico restaurants where you can
sample some of the local dishes prepared by the native Costa
Ricans. When in Lake Arenal eat as the locals do. Many of the
Lake Arenal Restaurants dishes pictured above cost as little
$3.00 and are outstanding. I really like the rice and
beans with Tico cheese. It's one of my favorite Lake Arenal
Restaurant offerings. I also like supporting the local folks
when possible. After all it's their country and we need to be
thankful they are allowing us to live in such a beautiful place
as Lake Arenal.
The local Ticos are very
friendly people and most struggle just to make a meager living
for their families. The foreigners (Gringos) are taking over
Lake Arenal and forcing the local business owners out of
business. So next time you visit paradise (Lake Arenal), support
the local businesses. I recall day when my wife and I stopped in
at one local Tico restaurant and order a Tico Gringo breakfast
of rice & beans, eggs, toast, bacon and fresh coffee and the
bill came to approximately $10. After we paid and received our
change we placed $4.00 in the tray as a tip. The business owner
who couldn't speak English picked up the $4.00 and brought us
back $4.00 in change thinking we only wanted change. After we
indicated to him it was a tip, he bowed to us and said thank you
in Spanish. The locals are such humble and lovely folks.
We (Gringos) are moving in
to Lake Arenal and purchasing all the property around the Lake
and making it to expensive for the locals to even live here any
more. They have to live outside Lake Arenal and often times have
to commute up to 2 hours to work and 2 hours back just to make a
living. When we first purchased our home in Lake Arenal
approximately 5 years ago we also fell into the tourist trap of
supporting the local Gringo restaurants without realizing the
impact of our actions on the locals. We use Gringo fishing
guides, Gringo tourist attractions where admissions costs $50
each or more and the locals only get $1.35 and hour or so.
Much of this money leaves the country and goes into some rich
foreigner's pockets instead of helping the locals.
Visit the local Lake
Arenal Restaurants on your next visit to Lake Arenal. You may be
surprised how appreciative and receptive the local Tico
restaurants are and you'll make some true friends that will do
almost anything to help you out in the future. Many of our very
best friends are Ticos now. We have noticed how the same
meal we can purchase at a Gringo establishment will cost upwards
of $20 and less than $5 in the local restaurants.

When we first purchased
property in Lake Arenal we felt more comfortable visiting the
Gringo Restaurants because they spoke English and it was easier
for us to order from the menu, etc. Most of the Tico
Restaurants have English translations right on the menu now so
you can simple point to your selection if you don't speak
Spanish. The locals are very eager to assist you in ordering and
you will fine them very cooperative. In just the last year
I have noticed the Gringo Restaurants doubling their prices just
because they can, while the Tico Lake Arenal Restaurants still
offer an unbelievable value at a fraction of the price. The
Gringo restaurants will be more lush than the local restaurants,
but you won't be disappointed with the food. Many business
owners justify the low Tico wages as creating opportunity and
jobs for the local natives, but the truth is Lake Arenal and La
Fortuna is quickly becoming a tourist trap like many areas of
the USA. |
