Costa Rica Flamingo is definitely one of the most clean and beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. The problem is, just like the other beaches in Costa Rica, its too HOT and to crowded. During the weekends and holidays it almost impossible to reach the beaches without parking and walking several miles. All the locals head to the beaches then. The beaches only have two seasons - very hot and dry and very hot and wet! The mosquitoes will make your beach trip miserable during the wet season, when its not thundering and lightning. The air blows like a furnace during the dry season. All is not lost however because Costa Rica has some of the most beautiful and temperate places in the world, the rainforests. Doesn't sound possible that you can find a place just 1.5 hours drive from the furnace of Flamingo beaches with year around temperatures 75 - 80 degrees, absolutely no mosquitoes, no crowds, very little crime and beautiful dark green surroundings 365 days of the year. Lake Arenal, Costa Rica is truly Costa Rica's paradise. Rain is almost never an issue as it rains mostly in the evening and nights. Nuevo Arenal is located at approximately 2,500 ft elevation making the nights cool off to around 65 degrees and mosquitoes don't go above 1,500 feet. In fact there are very few undesirable bugs and insects in Lake Arenal. If you travel to Costa Rica and don't visit Lake Arenal, you've wasted your Costa Rica trip. I talk to folks returning from Costa Rica all the time that comment they will never visit Costa Rica again because its to hot, to much crime and third world looking.  I only shake my head and tell them they should have visited Lake Arenal.  Lake Arenal is a 33 square mile freshwater lake that supplies all the drinking water for Costa Rica beaches. The beach area has a real water shortage problem. Lake Arenal is one of the most pristine fresh water lakes in the world. When you get to lake Arenal it's almost like you're in another country.                                    Flamingo Beach does have some great saltwater sports fishing and is highly recommend as a day trip.

Lake Arenal is the land of eternal spring weather with typical temperatures around 75 to 85 degree year round.  Usually 10 to 15 knot winds and rain is almost never a problem, except for December.  No mosquitoes,  very little crime and a paved hardtop road from the Liberia airport to the front door of all of our properties.  Mostly gringos.  Great restaurants and numerous local activities including horseback riding to 5 rainforest waterfalls, zip lining over the rainforest canopy, tram tours, butterfly & snake museums, volcano tours, ATV & motorcycle rentals & tours, canoeing, white water rafting, wind surfing, hanging bridges and tours of coffee plantations and the beautiful cloud forest.  Hot Springs, mud baths and massages nearby.  Go horseback riding in the local rainforest and visit  remote waterfalls.  Eat at some of Costa Rica's finest restaurants and visit the nearby active Arenal Volcano.  Go  hiking in the rainforest or zip line above the trees.  Take a guided fishing tour on Lake Arenal for the rainbow bass  or travel 2 hours to the beach for saltwater fishing at its best.  Visit the many art galleries and gift shops on the  lake.   You'll never run out of things to do in Lake Arenal.  Enjoy the year around spring temperatures in Lake  Arenal  (65- 85 degrees).  Everything is near by.
